What we stand for
Our roots go back to the 19th century, when the extremely innovative Dr. phil. Carl Schleußner developed, among other things, the first industrially producible X-ray plates.
A lot has changed since then, but we always stick to our values: Folex has stood for quality, reliability and pioneering innovations for many years throughout the world.
Made in Switzerland, made in Germany: Folex manufactures its products exclusively at locations that are known worldwide for quality work and reliability. We are considered a quality leader in many areas.

The urge to innovate has been a part of Folex since the very beginning. Our successful company history began in the 19th century with several groundbreaking inventions by the founder Dr. phil. Carl Schleußner. Later generations in the family business also proved to be extremely innovative. And that continues today.

Competence
Diverse technical capabilities
Folex has the latest facilities at two production sites for coating and finishing high-quality films for a wide variety of applications. We use water- and solvent-based formulations to apply the dissolved coating compounds. Thermal energy and UV are used for drying and curing.
We have pilot-scale and production machines that enable us to react very flexibly to special production volumes or requirements. If necessary, we also manufacture under clean-room conditions. And we are flexible as regards further processing in the form of converting from production rolls to short rolls or final formats.
In-house product development
At all three production sites, we have teams of chemists and application-oriented specialists, who develop innovative products to a point where they are ready for regular production.
As our customer, you can also benefit directly from the competence of our innovation teams. For instance, we can offer you consulting services during the development phase, or develop new solutions on your behalf.
For you as our customer, that means: we're perfectly equipped to meet your individual specifications and also to support you in developing your own products.
Environmental protection
Environmental and Climate Protection at Folex
At its production sites in Germany and Switzerland, Folex focuses on reducing energy and raw material consumption as well as emissions from manufacturing processes.
Key areas of focus include technical improvements to production facilities, the evaluation of materials used, and the collection of relevant energy and emissions data.
Our Transformation Plan
In 2024, Folex adopted a transformation plan outlining measures to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. These include:
- Optimizing coating processes and exhaust air treatment
- Evaluation and implementation of measures to reduce solvent consumption
- Gradually transitioning our vehicle fleet to electric vehicles
- Using district heating to heat our buildings
- Establishing an energy monitoring and management system to systematically record and analyze energy consumption CO₂ emissions
The transformation plan sets out a target to reduce CO₂ emissions by 40% by 2030, as well as the long-term objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2045. Achieving these targets depends on the implementation of the planned measures and other relevant conditions.

Products and Materials
As part of its product development activities, Folex evaluates the use of alternative raw materials and materials containing recycled content.
One example is Folacoat Pure, a coating plate for offset printing. It consists of a polymer containing a proportion of renewable raw materials and a polyester carrier containing recycled material.
These statements refer specifically to the materials mentioned and do not constitute a claim regarding the environmental performance of the product as a whole.
Production in Germany and Switzerland
Folex operates production facilities in Germany and Switzerland. Manufacturing processes are subject to the applicable legal requirements, including those relating to occupational safety and environmental protection.
